Here we are at Mother’s Day already. This ‘holiday’ means many things to many people.
Some women become mothers in a traditional way. Spouse, biological kids. Other mothers adopt. Some foster, but whether or not they adopt a foster child, they are acting in a mothers’ capacity to that child.
Some women are mother figures to children in their extended family. Or a friend’s family.
Others are mothers to pets! Being a cat mom, or a dog, or bird, or whatever animal you have, is a wonderful way to be a mom too!
Whether or not you are a mother, you deserve to be celebrated. You’re someone’s daughter, granddaughter, sister, cousin, aunt, and so on. We are all connected in one way or another.
Soon it will be Father’s Day. The dads don’t seem to get all the attention the moms do, but they play an integral part in the lives of their families.
Being a parent is the most difficult job in the world. It’s never what you imagine it will be. Curve balls fly when you least expect it. Smiles, and tears line the journey, sometimes on a daily basis.
We are told that crisis build character, and we become stronger with adversity. That can be true, but it is also exhausting. Sometimes, we just need a hug from mom. Or dad, or a friend.
I encourage you to lift up not only Mothers today, but everyone you come in contact with. Give grace. Find patience, listen to the ones telling you their stories. Above all, remember the Golden Rule.
Happy Mother’s Day to all of us.
