America’s Birthday

Here we are, the 4th of July looming within hours. America’s birthday. Folks are firing up the barbeque, lighting sparklers, going swimming, camping and staying up late. Fireworks will be exploding across the nation for untold hours and for several nights in a row.

America isn’t what it once was, but in many ways it is better. I am trying to look at the things that are better, in the midst of all the things that have become worse.

The pandemic, wars, politics, senseless killings that have destroyed countless families and communities.

Can our broken country rally once again? Face the problems head on and truly make the changes that will produce positive new directions and bring healing?

I don’t know. I’d like to think so. As many people say, Pay It Forward. It doesn’t have to be much, but it can make a huge difference to someone.

Sometimes even a smile will make a huge difference to someone. I know I have plenty of days where nothing seems right, but then someone does, or says something kind and I find that hope again and know that things will work out as they are meant to.

So as you take this weekend to celebrate America’s Birthday, please do remember to be kind to everyone. Many, many people have to work this whole weekend. No one likes to work the holidays, but many do, to serve others. Please take a moment to thank them for working and be kind. Let’s remind one another that we are a country. A population that is to come together. Support our brothers and sisters and show kindness as we are meant to.

Enjoy the celebrations you have planned, or whatever is on your calendar for this special day.

Happy Birthday America.
